Overview

Washington State Bill 1427 new opioid prescribing rules will affect clinicians and health-systems where scope of practice includes prescription of opioids. Lecture and Q&A presentations will outline the context, structure, alignment with existing guidelines and rules, using case-based format. Panel discussion and audience Q&A with Commissioners from the state’s Medical, Osteopathic, Nursing, Podiatric, Dental boards will follow. Specific assessment of individualized opioid risks and use of the state’s Prescription Drug Monitoring Program will be presented in case-based formats. Communication and treatment planning for patients already on prescribed opioids that are transferring to new providers will also be presented in case-based format. Consultation requirements and how to access specialists for high-risk patients will be reviewed. Case-based panel discussion with audience Q&A with focus on practical application of the rules will conclude the conference. This conference will be live-streamed for those unable to attend in person.

This course is only open to Washington State providers and prescribers, and meets the four- hour continuing education required on best practices in the prescribing of opioids for ARNPs.

Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, attendees should be able to:

  1. Differentiate between opioid prescribing best-practices and opioid prescribing rules.
  2. Delineate differences and similarities between previous Washington State opioid prescribing guidelines and rules, CDC guidelines, and current Washington State opioid rules.
  3. Outline necessary practice changes described in the 2019 Washington State Opioid Prescribing for Pain rules.
  4. Describe how to consistently apply 2019 Washington State Opioid Prescribing for Pain rules to your specific clinical practice and setting.

Registration

THIS COURSE IS AT CAPACITY FOR IN-PERSON & ONLINE ATTENDANCE; A WAITLIST OPTION IS AVAILABLE. When an opening develops, waitlist members will be contacted by email.

This course is only open to Washington State providers and prescribers. There is no registration fee to attend this course, however registration is required.

Two types of attendance are available: in-person, OR live streaming via webcast. Both registration types offer CME credit; please select your registration type appropriately.

Includes catering, instruction materials and transcript of AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. To enroll, click the Register button above. Allow up to 15 working days to receive your email confirmation of enrollment. If you have not received confirmation prior to your departure for the course, please contact the CME office at 206.543.1050. Continuing Medical Education will not be responsible for expenses incurred by an individual who is not confirmed if space is not available at the course.

CANCELLATION POLICY
The Office of Continuing Medical Education must receive written notification of your cancellation for in-person attendance by April 4, 2019. Cancellation requests for in-person attendance received after April 4, 2019, will be subject to a $50 cancellation fee. The Office of Continuing Medical Education reserves the right to cancel this course twenty (20) days prior to the course date when a minimum enrollment is not met or for other reasons that prevent the University from holding the course. Each registrant will be notified by telephone followed by written notification. The University of Washington is not responsible for any other costs incurred such as non-refundable airline tickets or hotel penalties. WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Includes, but not limited to: physicians, advanced practice providers, dentists, nurses, podiatrists, pharmacists,  clinic directors and hospital administrators where practices include prescription of opioids for pain across all phases of care in Washington State.

ONLINE CONFERENCE SYLLABUS
Handout materials for the conference will be provided online at uwcme.org (for conference registrants only) starting on April 9, 2019. Registrants may print and/or download the materials. A handout with the conference agenda and pages for note-taking will be provided at the conference (printed handouts of presentations will not be provided).

ATTENDANCE POLICY
Course activities are exclusively reserved for course attendees. Badges provided at registration are required for entrance into all functions and will be strictly enforced.

UW CME takes into consideration diverse nutritional preferences and restrictions when planning our complimentary menu. However, those individuals who might find that our menu is not completely aligned to their specific nutritional needs are welcome to bring their own food items.
