Overview

Culinary Medicine Program Overview

The Culinary Medicine Program is an innovative educational experience that bridges the gap between nutrition science and clinical practice. Through a combination of evidence-based nutrition education, hands-on culinary instruction, and practical patient counseling strategies, participants gain the knowledge and skills needed to promote healthy eating behaviors and improve health outcomes.

Designed for healthcare professionals, trainees, and interdisciplinary care teams, the program explores the role of food as a cornerstone of disease prevention and management. Participants learn how dietary choices influence common chronic conditions such as obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and gastrointestinal disorders, while developing practical approaches to help patients make sustainable lifestyle changes.

Through interactive cooking demonstrations and experiential learning activities, learners are introduced to techniques for meal planning, food preparation, culinary skills, and culturally responsive nutrition recommendations. The curriculum emphasizes translating nutrition evidence into realistic, patient-centered guidance that can be applied in a variety of clinical and community settings.

By combining culinary skills with clinical knowledge, the Culinary Medicine Program empowers healthcare professionals to confidently discuss nutrition with patients, model healthy behaviors, and integrate food-based interventions into everyday practice. Ultimately, the program supports a holistic approach to health by recognizing the powerful connection between what we eat and overall well-being.

PROGRAM ON-DEMAND

Program Format

  • A series of self-paced online modules designed to help healthcare professionals integrate evidence-based nutrition and culinary medicine principles into clinical practice.

  • Content is available September 1, 2026, through December 31, 2026.

  • Learners may complete modules at their own pace and in any order after completing Module 0 - Introduction and Course Overview (No Credit)

  • Participants who registered for the course after Sept. 1 will receive an email with the registration promo code to access the course and a link to the course evaluation.

  • Participants may claim credit only for modules completed, including the associated post-test requirements.

  • A Course Evaluation must be completed before a certificate can be issued.

  • Certificates may be downloaded in CloudCME® under My CME > Evaluations and Certificates after all requirements have been met.


Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:


  1. Integrate principles of integrative and culinary nutrition—including key nutrients, dietary patterns, and cultural and lifestyle influences—into evidence-based approaches for promoting health and preventing chronic disease.
  2. Apply culinary medicine concepts by developing condition-specific, whole food dietary recommendations tailored to individual patient needs, preferences, and wellness goals.
  3. Discuss the connections between diet, culture, lifestyle, and wellness, and how culinary nutrition can be customized for individual needs.

Registration

  1. Register for the on-demand content using the Registration Promo Code sent to you via email (if after Sept. 1)

  2. After registering, navigate to the Tests tab on the course page to view the list of modules.

  3. Begin with Module 0 and select Launch Module to open the module and review the course overview.

  4. After completing Module 0, you may start any module by selecting the Pre-Test button.

  5. Complete the required content and associated post-test for each module from which you wish to claim credit.

  6. Once you have completed all desired modules, submit the Course Evaluation which you will find in Module 11 and in the email that was send with the promo code to access the course.

  7. Access and download your certificate in CloudCME® under My CME >> Evaluations and Certificates

After you have completed all Culinary Medicine modules that you wish to participate in, please proceed to the course evaluation and credit attestation survey.

Through the Qualtrics survey, you will:

  • Complete the required activity evaluation.

  • Attest to the amount of time you participated in the on-demand modules.

  • Claim CE credit commensurate with your participation.

Please note that CE credit is awarded based on each module completed and passed.

Once you have submitted the evaluation and attestation, the UW Medicine Office of Interprofessional Continuing Education (IPCE) will process your credit claim. Credits will be recorded beginning the week of September 28, 2026 and are typically recorded within 1–2 weeks of survey completion thereafter.

You will receive an email notification when your CE certificate is available for download.
