University of Washington’s TelePain program is rooted in the rich history of UW adopting a multidisciplinary, biopsychosocial framework to the study and management of pain. The goal of TelePain is to engage and empower learners through evidence-based education and interactive case-based learning, to provide comprehensive high quality pain care for the patients in their respective communities. TelePain uses videoconferencing to bridge geographic distances and maximize the community of learners. Our philosophy is that providers will learn, not only from a panel of interprofessional pain specialists, but also from and with each other. Providers are encouraged to share both their challenges and successes and to offer suggestions for educational topics of interest. Didactic presentations are given by one of our TelePain team members or specific content experts that address common challenges in the management of pain in the primary care setting. Our curriculum is closely aligned with the International Association for the Study of Pain’s discipline-specific and interprofessional curricula as well as recently established core competencies for pain management.
