OT2302: Surgical Ethics Conference

SURGICAL ETHICS

The Annual Surgical Ethics Conference is a 2-day continuing medical education conference that employs the methods of ethical analysis taught in the Summer Seminar to analyze bioethics topics of special interest to surgeons, anesthesiologists, surgical nurses, physician assistants, social workers, and hospital administrators. The conference introduces participants to skills and information sufficient to enable them to make competent ethical decisions in clinical situations.

The conference format will incorporate asynchronous content tailored to surgical specialties defining ethical principles and concepts, with a 2-day live online program, including multi-disciplinary small group discussions, designed to allow participants to better understand the ethical debates that bear upon each topic. There is the option to participate in a Spanish only track, or the whole conference

The 2022 Surgical Ethics Conference will incorporate asynchronous content available from July 22 - August 12, 2022, with the 2-day live online program on August 4-5, 2022.

SUMMER SEMINAR

1. Discuss current issues and cases in health care ethics, including ethical challenges displayed in surgical care, particularly during pandemic times
2. Understand the conflicts that arise in everyday clinical surgical practice, and highlight situations which can be better approached and solved with a surgical ethics view
3. Employ skills in decision-making for clinical cases that present ethical problems
4. Identify fundamental concepts and principles for the understanding of ethical issues in clinical care
5. Discuss and utilize a Surgical Ethics framework and tools to assist in better decision making

Registration will close on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at 12pm Pacific Time.

CANCELLATION AND REFUND POLICY
Continuing Medical Education must receive written notification of your cancellation by July 22, 2022. A $35.00 processing fee will be deducted from refund requests received by this date. No refunds will be issued following July 22, 2022. Continuing Medical Education reserves the right to cancel this course twenty (20) days prior to the course date when a minimum enrollment is not met or for other reasons that prevent the University from holding the course. Each registrant will be notified by email and will receive a full refund. The University of Washington is not responsible for any other costs incurred. IMPORTANT PAYMENT INFORMATION
Per UW CME policy, you are not considered to be registered for the course until full payment has been received. Unpaid orders do not "reserve" spots for conferences or workshops. If you have not received confirmation prior to the course start, please contact the CME office at [email protected]. Continuing Medical Education will not be responsible for expenses incurred by an individual who is not confirmed if space is not available at the course.

ONLINE CONFERENCE SYLLABUS
Conference registrants will receive a link to the syllabus materials on July 28, 2022 for the live webinar, to view, print and/or download. The link to access the asynchronous content will be emailed to registrants by July 22, 2022.
