Objectives

At the conclusion of the activity, participants will be able to:


  1. Discuss the disease burden of obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
  2. Recognize the need to target weight, blood pressure, cholesterol, and smoking to reduce risk.
  3. Identify tools to mitigate cardiovascular risk.

Registration

After registering, learners can access the OnDemand content available following these steps:

  1. Locate "MyCME" on your screen
  2. Select "Tests"
  3. Locate the preferred session of "OT2207 CardioMetabolic ECHO" and click "Pre-Test" to begin. Additional instructions are contained within each session.
  4. In order to receive a certificate, you must complete the evaluation following the post-test.

Accreditation

Accreditation with Commendation: The University of Washington School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Credit Designation: The University of Washington School of Medicine designates this other activity for a maximum of 1.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Each session is worth 1.0 credit. You can participate in the live, enduring material and/or both. You can only claim credit once per session (live vs recorded).  In order to receive credit, learners must attend the live webinar OR watch the recorded content.  For webinar recordings, learners must answer pre/post test questions with a 70% pass rate to receive credit.  All learners must complete the post-session assessment to claim credit.

Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 24 MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the University of Washington School of Medicine’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.

ACPE Accreditation
The Washington State Pharmacy Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as aProvider of continuing pharmacy education. Each session is worth 1.0 CPE. To receive credit you must complete the post-session evaluation for each session you attend. At the conclusion of the series, participants should be able to combatclinical and medication inertia around cardiometabolic therapy.

Dr. Sean Wharton, MD, FRCP, PharmD has his doctorate in Pharmacy and Medicine at the University of Toronto. He is the medical director of the Wharton Medical Clinic, a community based internal medicine weight management and diabetes clinic.  He is an adjunct professor at McMaster University in Hamilton and York University in Toronto.  He also academic staff at Women’s College Hospital, and clinical staff the Hamilton Health Sciences.  Dr. Wharton’s research focuses on bariatric medicine and type 2 diabetes.  He is the co-lead author of the Canadian Obesity Guidelines

Dr. Wharton is involved activism to achieve health equity in Canada.  He founded the BMSA (Black Medical Students Association) at the University of Toronto in 2000. The BMSA is now a recognized mentorship organization across Canada.
