MJ1911 Diabetes Update for Primary Care Providers (Boise)

This is a new one-day course on diabetes geared towards primary care providers. There is an immense need for provider education as the incidence of diabetes in the general population reaches 10%; primary care clinics carry the major burden of these patients. Didactic lectures and interactive workshops offered in this program will provide key information on current classification of diabetes, glycemic targets, as well as effective diagnostic and management strategies using available therapeutic modalities. Important highlights of this course include an update on the cardiovascular outcome trials of pharmacologic agents for diabetes and cost effective disease management. Offerings also include workshops which provide interactive case discussions on effective insulin use, lipid therapy, inpatient glycemic management, and newer diabetes technologies.

1. Identify and appropriately diagnose the type of diabetes for any given patient.
2. Recommend optimal nutritional interventions for individuals with diabetes.
3. Discuss new therapeutics and older agents to treat diabetes.
4. Recognize cardiovascular benefits of therapies for diabetes.
5. Identify and properly manage complications in diabetes.
6. Manage diabetes in a cost-effective manner.

CANCELLATION POLICY
The Office of Continuing Medical Education must receive written notification of your cancellation by May 17, 2019. A $75.00 processing fee will be deducted from refund requests received by this date. No refunds will be issued following May 17, 2019. The Office of Continuing Medical Education reserves the right to cancel this course twenty (20) days prior to the course date when a minimum enrollment is not met or for other reasons that prevent the University from holding the course. Each registrant will be notified by telephone followed by written notification and a full refund. The University of Washington is not responsible for any other costs incurred such as non-refundable airline tickets or hotel penalties. Primary care providers including family medicine physicians, internists, physician assistants, advanced nurse practitioners, nurses, and other health care providers with an interest in diabetes care.

ONLINE SYLLABUS
Syllabus materials will be available for download at uwcme.org (for conference registrants only). Materials will be available from May 27 - July 1, 2019, for registrants to print and/or download. A booklet with the conference agenda and pages for note-taking will be provided at the conference.

ATTENDANCE POLICY
Course activities are exclusively reserved for course attendees. Badges provided at registration are required for entrance into all functions and this requirement will be strictly enforced.

DIETARY REQUESTS
UW CME takes into consideration diverse nutritional preferences and restrictions when planning our complimentary menu. However, those individuals who might find that our menu is not completely aligned to their specific nutritional needs are welcome to bring their own food items.
