UW TelePain is an innovative educational outreach strategy for primary providers throughout WWAMI to
connect to UW Pain Medicine experts in primary care medicine, anesthesiology, rehabilitation medicine,
psychology, psychiatry, and addiction medicine, for a 1.5 hour long weekly telemedicine/educational
presentation and community case consultation. The objective is to improve community clinicians’ capacity
to deliver safe, compassionate, measurement/outcome determined and evidence-based care for their chronic
pain patients. Each session is comprised of a 20-30 minute didactic, which includes information about CDC
and Washington state guidelines, fundamental principles and evidence for best practices for chronic pain,
with emphasis on a multidimensional approach to pain management; followed by presentations of
challenging pain cases from the community, using a measurement-based format.
