Talk Title: Beyond Glycemic Control: Use of Diabetes Medications for Cardiovascular and Renal Indications

Objectives:

  • Enhance knowledge on use of sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT-2) inhibitors and glucagon like peptide 1 receptor agonistGLP-1 RA for cardiac (ASCVD, HF) and renal (CKD, albuminuria) indications “beyond” glycemic management in appropriate populations.
  • Discuss the importance of assessing cardiovascular and renal risk factors in patients with diabetes.
  • Review the cardiovascular outcome trials (CVOT) and renal outcome trials for select GLP-1RAand SGLT-2 inhibitors.
  • Select the appropriate antihyperglycemic agents for cardiovascular and renal risk factors.
  • Identify and select the classes of antihyperglycemic agents, mechanism of action, benefits, and side effects of these agents.

Beyond Glycemic Control: Use of Diabetes Medications for Cardiovascular and Renal Indications

METHOD OF PARTICIPATION
In order to complete this activity, access to the internet and a device is required. You must receive a minimum passing score of 80% on each module post-test (max. 2 attempts) in order to receive your CME credit. Each module will have a required pre-test, followed by the educational content, a post-test and evaluation. It is important to know that once you have started the Post-Test (Examination), if you exit the Post-Test without responding to all questions, it will be counted as a failed attempt. Only two (2) attempts are permitted.
