This conference will provide an overview of global health and travel medicine. The conference is targeted to non-specialist physicians and other medical professionals with an interest in global health and those who will care for patients visiting low-income nations. Global health topics will include social determinants of health, aid work in complex humanitarian crises and an overview of common medical problems of low-income countries including HIV and TB. Pre-travel topics will include immunizations, malaria prophylaxis and traveler’s diarrhea.





Upon completion of this activity, attendees should be able to:

  • Review common threats to travelers in the developing world
  • Review pre-travel measures to mitigate those threats
  • Recognize the relationship between social factors,e.g., poverty and health
  • Describe common facets of aid during complex humanitarian crises

Syllabus materials will be available for download at uwcme.org (for conference registrants only). Materials will be available from June 20 - July 14, 2014, for registrants to print and/or download. A booklet with the conference agenda and pages for note-taking will be provided at the conference.

Course activities are exclusively reserved for course attendees. Badges provided at registration are required for entrance into all functions and will be strictly enforced.

CANCELLATION POLICY
The Office of Continuing Medical Education must receive written notification of your cancellation by June 17, 2014. A $50.00 processing fee will be deducted from refund requests received by this date. No refunds will be issued following June 17, 2014. The Office of Continuing Medical Education reserves the right to cancel this course twenty (20) days prior to the course date when a minimum enrollment is not met or for other reasons that prevent the University from holding the course. Each registrant will be notified by telephone followed by written notification and a full refund. The University of Washington is not responsible for any other costs incurred such as non-refundable airline tickets or hotel penalties.
