Mary Lou Kopas Bio Sketch


Mary Lou received her BA in Biology from Colby College in Maine, and BSN and MN degrees in nursing from the University of Washington, Seattle. She is currently Chief of UW Medical Center Northwest Midwives Clinic. She has served on the board of the Washingon State affiliate of the American College of Nurse Midwives (ACNM) and currently serves on the management committee of OB-COAP, a statewide obsetric quality improvement consortium.

Mary Lou’s particular interests in midwifery include breastfeeding support, psychosocial challenges in pregnancy, and optimal care strategies for second stage of labor. She has presented on second stage labor at the regional conference of Association of Women’s Health Obstetric and Neonatal Nursing (AWHONN) conference, and at the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM) national meeting. Her review of second-step labor was published in the Journal of Midwifery and Women's Health.
