Biosketch Anthony DeSantis,MD

 

Dr Anthony “Abe” DeSantis is a Clinical Professor in the Division of Metabolism, Endocrinology and Nutrition at the University of Washington Medical School.  Dr DeSantis completed his medical school education at Albany Medical College in Albany, NY. He received his residency and Fellowship training in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University in Chicago, IL. While at Northwestern he was chosen to be Chief Medical Resident and received the James Webster Award for most outstanding Internal Medicine Resident. Following his Fellowship training he remained at Northwestern as a Clinical Assistant Professor, he was Associate Chair of Clinical Affairs in the Division of Endocrinology , Diabetes and Metabolism. He developed and directed one of the initial Inpatient Hyperglycemia programs in the country, a program that has set national standards for excellence. He received the Frank Patterson Award for Excellence in Resident Teaching, an award given to one faculty member annually by the Internal Medicine Residents and is the recipient of the 2010-2011 and 2012-2013 and 2014-2015 David R Saunders Professor of the Year Memorial Award for excellence in teaching at the the University of Washington Medical School. He is the co-Course director of the Energetics and Homeostasis course at the University of Washington Medical School.

 

He is the Medical Director of the Endocrine and Diabetes Care Center at the University of Washington. He is a member of the Endocrine Society, serving on that organization’s Clinical Affairs Committee and Finance and Audit Committee, the American Society of Bone and Mineral Research, and Secretary of the Endocrine Days CME program. He has clinical interests in general Endocrinology and Diabetes and has assisted in the development of the Comprehensive Pituitary Program at the University Medical Center. He has received grant support and written publications on the topics of bone physiology and inpatient hyperglycemia.
